Well, I can hardly call this a realign as I’ve begun a complete overhaul of the site.
As usual, what began as a chance to test some code based on Andy Clarke’s seminal Transcending CSS for a client’s Shopping Cart site turned into a complete overhaul of the blog.
So for those of you so inclined, it is now using xhtml strict, CSS positioning for layout (oy, that was fun – but I think I’ve got it down…) and a bunch of unfinished styling and pages.
For those of you not in the new media trade: it’s nothing more than a tip of the hat to the outboard motor ads in the old National Geographics that lie in cardboard boxes in the basement.
A trip to the boat show got me thinking about how the blog might be a way to make even this mild winter pass a little more quickly – and the cottage dreamer was born.

This is just a test comment – to see if the system’s still working :)
Ignore it – but leave a comment of your own!
And yes – I’m aware that the comment preview page is bjorked…
Jesse, Great looking blog mate! I thought you were busy with work (lol).
Loved the Poppy piece will check out that CD.
Will check back more often. (I see you are still lifting outboards with one arm. You must be really cut!)

lol – Truth be told, I had done the layout awhile ago – just needed to experiment with some back-end stuff before trying it out on a client site – so I really was working!
It looks like the biopsy of a smokers lung. I have a friend who was there in January 2 years ago. He was showing a contractor how to install two part spray foam insulation. He says it’s not a place you would really want to go to twice.
It does look a little inhospitable. I could see why they would need two-part insulation :)
For the record, Jim’s referring to this link in the linkroll, in case it’s moved off the main page when these comments are being viewed down the road…
Jesse, great blog. Nice to see pics of the wedding I missed (Busker Festival). What’s an RSS feed?
Welcome, Ellen!
I know you’re pretty tech savvy – you should really get familiar with RSS feeds. They’re a way to be alerted when sites that you visit regularly have been updated, without having to actually go to the sites themselves.
You use a feed reader (my favourite is one called Bloglines) and subscribe to various feeds and blogs. Then you just check the feedreader and it gives you a list of any new content that has been added to the sites that you subscribe to. Here’s a great tutorial.
Really worth checking out.
